# Peppol IDs for your contacts

> What a Peppol participant ID is in the UAE, where to enter it, and how to find a buyer's ID.

Under the UAE e-invoicing mandate, invoices travel over the Peppol network from your ASP to the buyer's ASP. The buyer is addressed by a Peppol participant ID, so each buyer contact should carry one.

## The UAE format

A UAE participant ID is the scheme `0235` followed by a colon and the 10-digit Tax Identification Number (TIN). The TIN is the first 10 digits of the 15-digit TRN, so TRN `100234567890003` gives:

`0235:1002345678`

Alya Books suggests exactly this for your own organization during onboarding, and you enter the same pattern for contacts. If you paste a full 15-digit TRN, Alya Books converts it to the TIN for you.

## Buyers outside the UAE

`0235` is only for UAE businesses. A buyer abroad that is on Peppol has an ID with its own country's scheme, for example `9930:DE123456789` (German VAT number) or `0088:5790000435951` (GLN). Alya Books cannot work it out from a foreign VAT number, so ask the buyer or their Peppol provider for it.

When you set a contact's **Country** to anything other than the UAE, the scheme next to **Peppol ID** is cleared. Pick the buyer's scheme there (search by code or country), or paste the whole ID such as `9930:DE123456789` and Alya Books fills in both parts.

A buyer abroad without a Peppol ID is fine: leave the field empty. On an invoice with **Exports** ticked under **Transaction type**, the e-invoice goes to `0235:9900000099`. Without it, it goes to `0235:9900000098` (buyer not yet on the network) and validation warns you (rule IBT-049), so tick **Exports** when the supply is an export.

## Steps

1. Ask the buyer for their Peppol ID. Businesses that have appointed an ASP receive it from that provider; it is `0235:` plus their TIN (the first 10 digits of their TRN).
2. Go to **Contacts**, open the contact from the row menu with **Edit** (or **Add Contact**).
3. On the **General** tab, enter the identifier in **Peppol ID**. For a UAE contact the scheme `0235` is already chosen; for a buyer abroad pick its scheme in the small picker next to the label. Then click the shield button next to it. Alya Books checks the format and, when the network can be reached, whether the participant is registered in the Peppol directory (SML). Green means registered; amber means the format is fine but the registration could not be confirmed; red means the format is wrong.
4. Save. A confirmed registration is remembered on the contact (a tick next to the Peppol ID in the editor).
5. In the invoice editor, pick the contact. The ID is written into the XML as the buyer's electronic address.

## Good to know

- The check confirms registration, not the buyer's identity: it cannot tell you a TRN you do not know. In **Test (simulated)** mode every well-formed ID is reported as registered, but the result is marked as simulated and not saved as a verification. Changing a contact's Peppol ID clears its verification.
- Your own ID lives under **Settings → Profile → Peppol ID** and **Peppol Scheme ID** (`0235`). Suppliers use it to send invoices to you; they arrive via **Incoming Invoices → Fetch from Peppol**.
- Buyers without an ASP yet (small businesses before 1 July 2027, or individuals) receive the invoice by email as PDF and XML instead. Leave the field empty in that case. The Ministry of Finance also defines reserved endpoints for special cases: `0235:9900000097` (deemed supply), `0235:9900000098` (buyer not yet onboarded to Peppol) and `0235:9900000099` (export buyer without a Peppol ID).
- A wrong ID is the most common reason a submission is rejected by the buyer's access point. Check the digits before submitting.
