# Sending with your own SMTP server

> Store your mail server details so documents can go out from your own domain once the SMTP transport is switched on.

Source: /help/en/settings/use-your-own-smtp

By default, emails leave from the Alya Books platform address with your sender name and reply-to. The SMTP card lets you store your own server so that, when the SMTP transport is enabled on the platform, emails go out from your own domain instead.

## Current status

The settings can be saved today, but sending still uses the platform provider. The card says so: "Until this transport is enabled on the platform, emails fall back to the Alya Books sender." Entering SMTP details therefore does not change what your buyers see yet.

## Steps

1. Go to **Settings → Sending** (owners and admins).
2. In **Own outgoing mail server (SMTP)**, switch on **Use my own SMTP server**.
3. Enter the details from your email provider:
- **Host**, for example `smtp.office365.com`.
- **Port**: `587` for STARTTLS is the default; `465` for implicit TLS.
- **Username** and **Password**: usually the mailbox you send from. Many providers require an app password rather than the normal one.
- **Use TLS**: leave on.
4. Click **Save Sending Settings**. The password is stored on the server and never shown again; the field shows "(saved)". Leave it blank on later saves to keep it.

## Good to know

- To stop using your server later, switch **Use my own SMTP server** off and save.
- Until the transport is enabled, deliveries in the **Deliveries** card still show the platform provider.
- Sending from your own domain will require the mailbox to allow SMTP authentication; Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace both have a setting for this.
- The reply-to address and signature apply in both cases.
- When the transport goes live, the help centre and the card text will say so.
