What this tool checks

A UAE Tax Registration Number (TRN) has 15 digits, starts with 1 and ends with 03. The tool checks exactly that. It does not look the number up with the Federal Tax Authority, so a well-formed number is not proof that it is registered.

Spaces and dashes are ignored, so you can paste a number as it appears on an invoice.

TRN, TIN and Peppol ID

The Tax Identification Number (TIN) is the first 10 digits of the TRN. Under UAE e-invoicing, your address on the Peppol network (the participant identifier, also called endpoint ID) is the scheme 0235 followed by that TIN. For TRN 100234567890003 the TIN is 1002345678 and the Peppol ID is 0235:1002345678.

If you belong to a tax group, your TIN comes from your own TRN, not from the TRN of the group's representative member.

When a buyer has no Peppol ID

The Ministry of Finance guidelines define three predefined buyer addresses. Use 0235:9900000098 for a UAE buyer that has not yet implemented e-invoicing, 0235:9900000099 for an export to a buyer without a Peppol ID, and 0235:9900000097 for a deemed supply.

Common questions

Is the TIN the same as the TRN?
No. The TIN is the first 10 digits of the 15-digit TRN. E-invoicing identifies you on the network by the TIN.
Does this confirm that a TRN is registered with the FTA?
No. It checks the format only: 15 digits, starting with 1 and ending with 03. Use the FTA's own TRN verification to confirm registration.
Is the number I type sent anywhere?
No. The check runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us.
What if my business has no TRN?
A business that is in scope for e-invoicing but not registered for any tax registers with the FTA to obtain a TIN. Its Peppol ID is still 0235 followed by that TIN.
